To celebrate the beginning of summer, the opening of my show at the Galveston Artist Residency along with my impending departure from GAR, I am focusing on what my next steps are going to be with my work and in my life. As some of you know, in the recent years I have become a bit of a road warrior - I have traveled to many different parts of the country by car, mainly focusing on the landscapes that define what America is, what it used to be and what it still can be. As a result, I have literally thousands of photos of those documented landscapes that I have never shared, but are images that I love. And, I want to share them with all of you. In an effort of building some reserve for my journey forward, I am hoping all of you might consider contributing to that journey and partake in that sharing.
Furthermore, a significant portion of my show at GAR consisted of found objects - many were artifacts dug up in a vacant lot right next to GAR, but a lot of the objects also came from things I found on the beach. The Galveston beaches are often littered with trash and discarded items: I've found shoes, nets, toys, various items of clothing including undergarments, all sorts of plastic bits and containers, oh so many plastic bags, oh so many one-use plastic water bottles, beer bottles + cans, feminine hygene products, condoms, cigarette butts, hangers, pots & pans, many various bits of sunglasses, toothbrushes, nylon rope, all sorts of styrofoam containers, wrappers of every kind, a wooden pallet, and so on. Included below are some images of just how littered the beaches in Galveston can become. I should note that all of these photos were taken on a Monday morning after just one weekend of visitors to Galveston's beaches:
I know that Galveston is not the only place this is happening - in fact I'm sure most of you know that there's a patch of plastic liter in the ocean that is twice the size of Texas, appropriately. In a way of giving back monetarily to the island that gave me so much while I was here, I am planning on donating 20% of all money raised here to a Galveston beach cleanup organization. The beaches here are beautiful and deserve to be preserved. I would love to see them be free of the materials that I can subsequently make art out of.
Along with photos, I also offer some custom orders, such as cyanotypes and drawings. Depending on the choice, I will work with you to achieve a personalized, one of a kind piece.
Some general fine print and information:
For digital images:
- I will be adding some more images as I edit and prepare them, so there will be more of a selection coming momentarily. There is an option of reserving a specifically sized print now and then choosing an image at a later date, if desired.
- I do want to note that paper sizes do not necessarily reflect actual image size. Images will be printed on specified paper to the largest dimensions possible & appropriate for the image.
- All digital images will be printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper from an Epson P800 printer.
- Normally, I only do editions of 10 in each size for each digital photo, but I will open up the editions for this fundraiser. If the edition sells more than 10 prints per size after the fundraiser is done, the edition will be closed and you will be the only people on the planet to have a digital print of that image! Fancy!
- I will ship out orders as I get them. Depending on volume, this may take several weeks. Please provide an address that will be appropriate for a shipping date within that timeframe.
- All items will have a shipping price added on at checkout. The shipping cost depends on the size of the item and the packaging necessary to ensure safe travel. If you are local to Galveston and can do a personal pickup, please do let me know and I can refund you the shipping charge.
If you would like to just make a general donation, you are more than welcome to do so in the option below. Though, seriously, I would love to send you something.
Also, if you happen to be near Galveston, during the second art walk (July 14th) I will be offering all of the crystalized objects in my show for a donation amount of your choice. They will be available on a first come, first served basis. If there are some of you who would like to have a crystalized object shipped, please send me an email and we can work something out. They are fragile, so they will require some very secure shipping. Some examples are below:
Thank you, so much, for supporting my work - and for your subsequent contribution to help keep Galveston's beaches clean!
